Flexible customization FAQ: MOQ, lead times & testing

Answers to the questions merchants ask most—how MOQ works, how lead time is calculated, how flexible paths differ from traditional OEM, and how to move from test to replenishment.

Flexible customization is not “always small batches forever”—it lowers the cost of validating demand before you scale. The items below cover typical blockers from assortment through replenishment.

Actual MOQ, processes, and lead times depend on the catalog and order confirmation; peak season and design approval timing strongly affect total time to delivery.

Questions

What MOQ should I expect for flexible customization?
It varies by category and process: printed apparel, home décor, and many gift lines often start small; structural or tooling-heavy SKUs may require higher MOQ. Filter the Flecustom catalog and confirm on the product page or quote.
How do sampling and production lead times differ?
Sampling includes process proof and physical pieces; production starts after sample sign-off or approved mockups. Total lead time = production/handling + shipping. Before Q4 peaks, buffer design approval and QC.
Do you support POD / one-piece fulfillment?
Some categories and channels support on-demand production and single-piece fulfillment—good for tests and long-tail SKUs. Availability depends on the product and fulfillment program—check listing details or contact us.
Will multi-category orders slow everything down?
Categories may use different lines and QC flows. Run one or two categories through the full loop first, then expand; bundled SKUs need extra time for kitting and alignment.
What do you need for design files?
Clear artwork, dimensions, and process notes (placement, colors, material limits). Errors or unlicensed assets cause rework or delays—typically the submitter’s responsibility.
How is this different from a traditional OEM factory?
OEM often means high MOQ and long inventory cycles for proven demand; flexible paths emphasize small-lot tests, quick replenishment, and on-demand production. See our blog post “Flecustom vs traditional OEM.”
What if quality is off?
Inspect on delivery; quality issues follow QC and support rules. Personalized goods may not qualify for no-reason returns where law allows—see the shipping policy.
How do I run a first test?
Use the sourcing calendar and catalog, pick 3–5 blanks → design/sample → list small → use data to replenish or kill. Register a merchant account for the full design and order flow.
